Puerto Rican Authorities Catch 12-Foot Python.

According to officials with the Department of Natural Resources in Puerto Rico, local law enforcement authorities have successfully captured the 12-foot Burmese Python that had terrorized local residents.

A search for the massive reptile had been underway after local authorities received numerous complaints from residents. Police Sergeant Angel Atienza indicated that officials found the snake in a river in Manati, a northern coastal town in Puerto Rico.

The snake, which reportedly weighed over 70 pounds, is illegal to own in Puerto Rico. The snake’s owner faces a $1,000 fine. Puerto Rican police officials have not indicated whether the snake had an owner and whether the owner has been found.

Burmese Pythons are among the largest snakes in the world and are popularly kept as pets.
