A surfer was in the ocean on the French Indian Ocean Island, Reunion, in Australia when a shark attacked him.
The unidentified male is in his forties and is an experienced surfer. He was out in the water surfing with his friends. He was at a location which is currently a marine reserve. A shark approached him and bit into both his arms and legs.
His friends were able to pull him to shore, but he suffered from a severed hand and foot.
This is the second shark attack on an Australian surfer this summer. Last month, a 21 year-old surfer was brutally mauled and killed by a shark. It is likely that great white sharks were involved in both attacks.
