An 81 year-old Peru, New York woman is recovering from major facial wounds that were suffered when she was attacked by dogs. Loretta M. Timmons had just returned to her home after a short birthday trip to Lake Placid, New York with her daughter, Julie Timmons. When Ms. Timmons walked down to the end of her driveway to check her mailbox, she was violently attacked by her neighbor’s dogs, an American bulldog and two boxers. The dogs were reportedly ripping at a terrified Ms. Timmons as one Deanna Quinn-Rotella happened to be driving by.

When she saw what was happening, Ms. Quinn-Rotella got out of her vehicle and screamed and kicked at the dogs. State Police said that while the witness was rendering assistance, the dogs’ owner, Michael V. James, came to retrieve them. The injuries suffered by Ms. Timmons were described as significant. Ms. Timmons needed to be transferred by a Life Flight helicopter to the University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington, Vermont, where it took a plastic surgeon more than five hours of reconstructive surgery to work on her extensive wounds.
